Patriot Place Foodie Friday: Axel & Byrne
Weekly showcase featuring the various dining options we have here at Patriot Place
Axel and Byrne is a family-inspired, casual counter-service restaurant featuring “food from the road” and pays tribute to regional American cuisine from roadside diners, BBQ pits, and food stalls found across the United States. The name comes from the grandparents of Sean and Sue Olson, owners of Salt + Stone. Axel Olson, a traveling salesman, would bring home interesting recipes from around the country and Madeleine Byrne, one of the first women to go to the Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute, would recreate these dishes with her own personal touch.
The restaurant boasts a vibrant atmosphere with floor-to-ceiling windows, exposed brick, tile, reclaimed wood, and a retro wall that incorporates classic cars and working headlights. The casual-style counter is reminiscent of classic New England shacks with their large overhead menu boards, self-seating and tableside service. The menu includes items such as Reuben Sandwich, Street Corn, and freshly smoked Pulled Pork and Baby Back Ribs. A must-try is the Frito Pie – made with Fritos, chili, cheddar, jalapeños, tomatoes and scallions.
Axel and Byrne is open Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM and Friday and Saturday from 11:30 AM – 9:00 PM. Reservations aren’t necessary with quick-moving lines and a 65-seat interior space and 15-seat patio for outdoor dining. Order ahead online for a delicious grab-and-go option that’s at the heart of Axel and Byrne.
